The Beautifful Journal
Waxing gives you gorgeously smooth skin that lasts far longer than shaving — and a little preparation makes the whole experience more comfortable and gives you the best possible results.
Here's how to get ready for your wax.
This is the big one. For a clean, effective wax, your hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip — usually around two to three weeks of growth, or roughly a grain of rice in length. Please don't shave in between; it's tempting, but it resets the clock!
Lightly exfoliating in the day or two beforehand lifts away dead skin and helps prevent ingrown hairs. Skip it on the actual day, though, as freshly scrubbed skin can be a little sensitive.
Soft, hydrated skin waxes beautifully, so keep up your usual moisturising routine. Just leave it off on the morning of your appointment so the wax can do its job on clean, dry skin.
Both can make your skin more sensitive, so it's worth going easy on your morning coffee and avoiding alcohol the night before if you can.
If you're having an intimate wax, your skin can be more sensitive in the days just before your period. Booking for a little later in your cycle can make it more comfortable — but don't stress about it too much.
Loose, soft clothing afterwards lets your skin breathe and avoids any rubbing on freshly waxed areas.
For some treatments a patch test is needed beforehand — if that applies to you, I'll always let you know when you book.
Follow these and you'll be set for the smoothest, most comfortable wax possible.
