The Beautifful Journal
You've left the chair looking and feeling gorgeous — now a little aftercare at home keeps it that way for as long as possible. Whatever treatment you've had, here's how to look after it so you get the very best out of every appointment.
For the first couple of hours, try to keep your hands dry and avoid knocks while everything settles. After that, the golden rule is cuticle oil every single day — it keeps your nails flexible so they bend instead of snapping, and helps stop your gel lifting.
Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning, never use your nails as tools, and please don't pick or peel if you spot any lifting. If something does lift, just get in touch and I'll sort it properly rather than risk damaging your natural nail.
Your skin will be a little sensitive for 24 to 48 hours, so be gentle with it. Avoid hot baths, saunas, swimming, sunbeds and heavy exercise for the first day or two, as heat and sweat can irritate freshly waxed skin.
Skip perfumed products, fake tan and tight clothing on the area for a day. From about 48 hours afterwards, start gently exfoliating two or three times a week — this is the secret to preventing ingrown hairs and keeping skin smooth between appointments.
Keep the area dry for the first 24 hours — no steam, swimming or heavy sweating while everything sets. After that, avoid oil-based products and rubbing your eyes, as oil and friction break down the treatment faster.
Brush through lashes or brows gently with a clean spoolie to keep them looking neat, and resist the urge to pick or pull.
Your skin has been deeply cleansed, so let it breathe. Try to go make-up free for the rest of the day if you can, and keep things simple — gentle cleanser and plenty of moisture.
Avoid harsh exfoliants or active ingredients for a day or two, and always pop on an SPF, as freshly treated skin is more sensitive to the sun.
Be gentle, keep things clean, and stay hydrated — inside and out. Look after your treatment at home and it'll reward you by lasting longer and looking better.
